- Alan Levy // Treasures of the vatican collections
This book provides a tour of the Vatican Collections, best known for the Sistine Chapel. The book is laid out in chapters that follow the order of the galleries in the collections and provide a guided tour by their curators. There is an interesting old map of the Volga that must date from before 1552, as it includes "Cazan Regvm" or Kazan Kingdom, and Ivan the Terrible conquered it in 1552. (p. 72). The section on the ethnographic collections is rather old-fashioned. Still, an enjoyable tour through the collections that is likely a good deal less exhausting than seeing the real, vast thing.
