- Eric Clapton // Live At Budokan
The mighty Eric Clapton — live in 2001 at Tokyo's fabled Budokan rock arena, playing a stunningly wide range of songs in both searing electric and heartfelt acoustic settings.
This is Clapton the utterly mature and accomplished — having long since absorbed and surpassed the pyrotechnics that made "Eric Clapton is God" a watchword of swinging, blues-revival London in the mid-1960's. Clapton's electric guitar playing here is more powerful even than it was with the Bluesbreakers, Cream, and Blind Faith, his feeling for the blues even deeper.
Yet he also brings to life the mellower, acoustic side of his artistry— hallmark of his mature period. Thus we are treated to "Layla" in both the acoustic and electric versions and a gorgeous "Tears In Heaven." The band riffs hard and adventurously on hard-driving versions of Cream hits like "Badge" and "Sunshine Of Your Love," blues classics like "Hoochie Coochie Man," and many others.
A beautiful and intense concert from one of the great musicians of our time.
