On the long voyage home to Ithaca from the Trojan war, Odysseus and his men face danger and death. Here, Odysseus outwits the ferocious Cyclops, flees the carnivorous Laestrygonians, is seduced by the enchantress Circe and survives the attack of the repulsive twelve-legged, six-headed monster Scylla, among other terrifying adventures. The Odyssey is thought to have been composed towards the end of the eighth century BC. It is published in Penguin Classics as is Homer's lliad.
