When Christ walked the earth almost two thousand years ago, He would enter a public place and people became instantly divided. Their reaction to Him was explosive and instantaneous. The sheer magnitude of Truth confronting them demanded a response; they saw a blinding light that both offered hope and--in a powerful unmasking of their souls--revealed the terrible lies, private sins and contradictions within these people.
Their response to Truth determined where they stood on the great divide. It was almost impossible for those in His presence to look directly into the Light and remain indifferent. They had come into the presence of the Son of God. And there was no time for diplomacy, equivocation or compromise.
Polarized, they fell into two camps (sometimes they crossed sides later, either "falling away" or "falling under conviction"). It is what happens when the lone self encounters the Holy. They either loved Him, acknowledging that He was the Truth incarnate, the long-awaited Messiah who offered salvation. Or they conspired to remove His presence from the earth, to extirpate or alter every word He said, and every act and miracle He performed.
Those who opposed Christ and His message, especially when Christendom was a force to be reckoned with, knew the world had to be slowly bent. By a process of gradualism and assimilation, changes were introduced. Civilized society needed a gentler slope in this long-range culture war. Certain "daring" philosophers, scientists and literary figures were needed, and appeared right on cue, like actors appearing on a stage. They accrued growing acclaim. Inevitably the "open-minded" who embraced change were the intelligentsia and the wealthy. The rest followed.
The background of this cosmic struggle has been as amazing as any drama. Most people have no idea what has been going on in a conflict kept far from public view.
The authors of this book, graduates from top universities, spent years on various paths--one of them living in India pursing Yoga, others pursuing psychic exploration, Eastern mysticism, drugs, atheism, New Age beliefs, progressive humanism, scientism or the occult--before something happened to them, changing their lives forever. They offer a refreshing perspective to an ancient struggle.
