Two brothers born into a Fundamentalist family grew up on the Biblical stories about God and the Devil. John, the youngest, believed that the stories were fact and grew to see himself as a soldier of God. He became a Fundamentalist minister. Sam, the older brother, heard the same stories and, much to the chagrin of his parents and his brother, questioned them all. He became an agnostic with a curiosity about the Tibetan Book of the Dead.;The difference in belief led to decades of estrangement between the brothers, but late in life they agreed to travel together for one last time. John believed it would be his last chance to save his brother's soul. Sam believed that it was his last chance to show his brother the real world.;The brother's journey together begins in Amsterdam and ends on a mountain top in the desert. Their journey results in something neither brother could have expected when they started - the foundation for a new religion.
